Questions people ask
How much does it cost to paint kitchen cabinets?
A full kitchen typically runs $2,600–$7,350 through TaskManor: about $110 per door and $55 per drawer front sprayed, plus roughly $90 per door for the boxes and face frames, with a $1,500 minimum. A typical 20-door, 8-drawer kitchen prices at $4,000–$4,950 sprayed, or $2,600–$3,250 with a brushed finish. That’s in line with typical Denver-metro pricing of $3,000–$8,000 for a full kitchen repaint.
Why do I get a price range instead of an exact price?
Because cabinet painting is priced per counted piece, and no photo AI can reliably count 15–40 near-identical doors. So our AI proposes the counts, you correct and confirm them, and your estimate carries a band of about ±10% — wider when something like the surface material needs an on-site check. Your matched pro then confirms the exact count and scope on-site, and you approve before any work begins.
Is painting cabinets cheaper than replacing them?
Yes — significantly. Repainting keeps your existing cabinet boxes, so it runs roughly a third to half the cost of refacing and a fraction of full replacement, with no demolition and no new cabinetry. It’s a common move before selling a home, or after buying one with a dated kitchen.
Can laminate or thermofoil cabinets be painted?
Usually, yes. Non-wood surfaces need a bonding-primer prep that typically adds 15–25%, and your pro confirms the surface on-site before work begins. The exception is peeling or delaminating cabinets — fresh paint lifts with a failing surface, so those need refacing or replacement instead. Laminate and thermofoil also can’t be restained, only painted.
How long does cabinet painting take?
Usually days, not weeks. There’s no demolition and no new cabinetry: doors and drawer fronts are removed, degreased, sanded, primed, and finished, the boxes and face frames are painted to match, and everything is rehung. It’s one of the fastest ways to make a dated kitchen look new.
Can cabinets be restained instead of painted?
Not yet on TaskManor — opaque paint finishes are available at launch, and restaining to a wood tone is coming later. Restaining also has stricter requirements: it needs real wood, so laminate, thermofoil, and already-painted cabinets can only be painted.
When can cabinets not be refinished?
Two conditions rule it out: peeling or delaminating surfaces (paint lifts with the failing layer), and structural damage like warping, swelling, or water damage — refinishing can’t fix either, so those cabinets need repair, refacing, or replacement. If our AI flags one of these from your photos but you believe your cabinets are sound, you can still get an estimate with a wider range that a pro verifies on-site.
